Our Technology Predictions for 2022

You are here

With 2022 nearly upon us, we’re sharing our top technology predictions for the year to come. From desktop virtualisation to application services in the cloud and virtual reality, we think there are a lot of exciting trends that are about to emerge. Here are a few to consider for your business in 2022.

Desktop-As-A-Service and Windows365

With many businesses now offering hybrid working environments, desktop virtualisation technologies continue to evolve. Recent announcements from Microsoft regarding Windows365 demonstrate how important this technology is. However, streaming Windows to literally any device has a long way to go before we see mainstream commercial adoption of Windows365 and our initial testing showed just how network latency degrades the user experience.

While Windows365 is an evolving story, organisations are rapidly adopting hybrid working environments. For this reason, we see the use Windows and App virtualisation such as Citrix Workspace, Virtual Apps, VDI and Windows Remote Desktop Services continuing to grow.

Application Services in the Cloud

We continue to see many software providers driving customers to their cloud platforms through increasing costs of on-premises solutions. This is increasing business transformation project demand as organisations review their mix of business systems and start to direct expenditure toward business process and automation.

The flexible pay-as-you-go pricing, automatic updates, easy management and ability to access applications from virtually anywhere means more and more businesses will opt for application services in the cloud. That’s why we’re building our services to support customers on their digital business transformation journeys.

Evolving tech for rich digital workplaces

Wearable tech

Augmented reality, virtual reality and mixed reality are becoming more and more common in mainstream business. For example, some workplaces are using wearable computers from companies such as Realwear for remote skilled work delivery. While this has found more of a foundation due to the pandemic, we predict it’s here to stay and will only increase in popularity.

Board and meeting room technology

Digital meeting and delivery tech will continue to evolve as businesses move away from legacy videoconferencing products and adopt modern simpler and ubiquitous platforms such as Zoom and Teams in meeting and boardrooms.

Cross organisational instant messaging and collaboration

There’s a reason Salesforce paid nearly $40 billion AUD for Slack. With real-time collaboration tools in full swing, Slack, Teams and Google workspace will continue to battle it out for a place in businesses around the world.

Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Satellite

For many regional locations in Australia, the arrival of NBN has been shadowed by slow speeds, limited download capacity and high costs. This is set to change in 2022 with the arrival of LEO Satellite technology. LEO will soon be available across Australia, delivering faster speeds at affordable prices. You might recall the implementation of Elon Musk’s new consumer satellite internet service, Starlink, which is already available in limited Australian locations and more broadly in Europe and North America.

E-Signatures and digital workflows

Many businesses still adopt manual processes for contracts, but this is going to change with the adoption of e-signatures. Adobe’s e-signature software (Adobe Sign) is their fastest growing product and we predict that e-signature solutions will become mainstream in 2022. E-Signature integrations such as Adobe Sign with Windows365, Nintex AssureSign and DocuSign for Salesforce are all significantly improving office productivity.
